ICI is an Intergenerational Critical Youth Participatory Action Research (ICYPAR) initiative that uses research to illuminate the issues, solutions, and contributions of NYC youth from their perspectives. We activate our research findings to foster youth and community engagement; ignite coalition-building; and advocate for intergenerational municipal policy-making.
What We Do
ICI youth researchers learn, through a social-justice praxis, how to design and conduct research that is cyclical, intergenerational, and collaborative.
We train in the application of diverse and creative research methods and conduct short-term and longitudinal research projects such as our annual digital Youth Ask Youth census.
We design youth-friendly, infographic reports to ensure our research and findings are accessible and engaging.
We host interactive public events to share our findings, collect ongoing feedback, and deepen our data discoveries.
We facilitate presentations and turn-key trainings on using youth-generated data with young people to inform community-level change
We work in coalition with other youth organizations, such as the NYC Youth Agenda Steering Committee, to advocate for the policies and resources NYC youth identify as central to their well-being and success.
Values & Commitments
“No research about us without us”
Young people are centered in all stages of our research.
We believe young people are the architects most qualified
to design the policies and resources they need and deserve.
Our work is deeply intergenerational.
Youth and adults co-facilitate, share power, jointly contribute expertise, skills, and social capital to support our collective change efforts.
